Children's Church Volunteers

If you love to play games, perform skits, do puppets, and have fun doing recreational activities, consider helping out in Kids' Church!

Our Kids' Church ministers to children in 1st through 4thgrade and meets every Sunday from 9 AM-10:15 AM. We meet in the large room (old youth room) just off of the old fellowship hall.

We are currently looking to build a team of folks who…

  • Are willing to volunteer one Sunday every other month—or more
  • Love the Lord
  • Love children
  • Want to see children come to know Christ and grow in the faith

We recognize that no one really wants to miss church. We also understand that most people really don’t want to “get stuck” working in a ministry without assistance. Therefore, we are building a team of individuals that is based upon partnership, flexibility, and the utilization of gifts. So, if you want to have a big part or a small part, there is a place for you.

What are some things that you might do in Kids' Church?

Here are a few of the opportunities:

Creative Arts Director:

Under the direction of the Kids' Church Coordinators, the Creative Arts Director oversees and facilitates two important areas in Kids' Church: puppets and skits. This person, working with the Puppet and Drama Leaders, takes the week’s lesson and creates a biblical, meaningful, and fun experience for the children. This person is highly creative and should be willing to meet with the Puppet and Drama Team Leaders for planning and practice. As a note, we would imagine that either one puppet show or one skit would take place every week.

Lead Coordinators:

These folks are planners and coordinators at heart. They also appreciate flexibility. Lead Coordinators are the “face” of the weekly Kids' Church and they do several things:

  • Although Lead Coordinators rotate, they must be willing to volunteer at least one full-month at a time
  • They must be familiar with the Kids' Church material for that Sunday
  • They oversee and facilitate the entire Sunday program
  • They coordinate times for each event (lesson, music, recreation, etc.)
  • They generally serve as the “face” or “host” of Kids' Church and help transition through the various times.
  • They may also serve as the Lead Teacher—or even work with one of the other branches, if necessary

Lead Teachers:

These folks are responsible to prepare and teach the Bible lesson. As a guide, these folks will be given the Kids' Church material. Lead teachers are not necessarily required to stay the entire time; however, they may choose to stay as helpers.  We would ask that a Lead Teacher commit to teaching all of the Sundays in one month.

Music Leaders:

These folks love music and have the ability to lead children. They also are able to learn song motions or sign language and teach them to the class. A DVD of the music would be provided to the Music Leader at least a month in advance. (Typically, there are only about 3 songs per class and about 5 new songs per month—we only ask that one or two of the songs involved motions or sign language. Music Leaders are not required to stay the entire time; however, they may also stay on as helpers. We would ask that a Music Leader commit to lead music all of the Sundays in one month.

Drama Team:

Under the direction of the Children’s Creative Arts Director, these folks dress in fun costumes and “act out” a skit in Kids' Church that connects to the week’s lesson or some connected theme. Drama team members are not required to stay the entire time; however, they may also stay as helpers. Drama team leaders may serve as little as one Sunday a quarter. However, they may be required to meet with the Children’s Creative Arts Director for planning and practice.

Puppet Team:

Under the direction of the Children’s Creative Arts Director, these folks create and act out puppet shows based upon the lesson of the day. Puppet Team members will be provided with the lesson material at least a month in advance. Puppet team members are not required to stay the entire time. The puppet team rotates as needed. Puppet Team leaders may serve as little as one Sunday a quarter. However, they may be required to meet with the Children’s Creative Arts Director for planning and practice.

Rec Leaders:

These folks would create and implement fun games or activities that center on the teaching lesson. Our lesson material generally provides us with some good ideas, but we also like to be creative.

Helpers:

These folks help the various ministry leaders facilitate the lesson. These are folks who help “keep control” and allow the ministry leaders to focus on teaching and leading. Helpers may serve as little as one Sunday a quarter.

Wow…that’s a lot of information!

However, hopefully, you can see that there is a place for you in Kids' Church.
